A liquified natural gas plant owned by ConocoPhillips and Marathon Oil Corp. is pictured from the air. The Nikiski, Alaska, plant is the only LNG facility permitted in the United States to export product from the U.S. It will close in late 2011. ConocoPhillips cited declining market conditions in Asia and difficulty obtaining enough natural gas in Alaska as reasons for closing the plant.
